Coming in at a swift 13 minutes, this 5-track demo immediately bridges the temporal gap between 2021’s split with Kūka'ilimoku and now. With a valiant swagger, Sandowm plays the Bone Awl, Ildjarn, etc., style of blackened punk that the Horrible Room crew and several other modern black metal hordes have now taken up. In this style of unrefined BM, more artists are creating compelling work than would generally be expected, with Horrible Room having a grip of bands that kill. It’s always a pleasure to find a band doing that style with a distinctive sound, and Sandworm has always been one of those bands, bellowing with a strained howl into the swirling void of primitive raw black metal with reckless abandon. If you have yet to explore Sandworm’s catalog I suggest you dig in, and this new demo might be a great starting point.
